I thought this was a sort of romantic image, the two of them. We actually did it with real fire, but their hands were all gelled up and you could tell, so this was added in CGI and it looks beautiful. I thought it was a nice comment on their relationship. But what I basically told [Sarah and James] was: “Play the romance. Be proud of him. Love him when you say you love him. Love her when you say she doesn’t love you. Forget about the crumbling world. For that period of time, it doesn’t exist.” It’s a cinematic trick, but it’s a necessary emotional one. — Joss Whedon (“Chosen” Commentary)
And about the first gif on the third row:
I had a giant argument with the editor Lisa Lassek about this particular shot. She liked a different take, I liked this take. Buffy’s hand comes into frame; I felt it was important, the frame kind of died without it. — Joss Whedon (“Once More, With Feeling” Commentary)

I do remember what I said. The promise. To protect her. If I’d done that - even if I didn’t make it, you wouldn’t’ve had to jump. I want you to know I did save you. Not when it counted, of course. But after that. Every night after that. I’d see it all again, do something different. Faster or more clever, you know? Dozens of times, lots of different ways.
Every night I save you.
